Sustainability
WAZA and its members embrace a world in which every effort is made to live in harmony with nature. By promoting sustainable use of natural resources, progressive zoological organisations are helping their visitors and surroundings communities to take better care of the planet.
The collective power of the global community of zoos and aquariums includes the capacity to reach a global audience of more than 700 million visitors annually, as well as a network of businesses, government agencies and other partners.
Through three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), WAZA is working to promote sustainable and responsible consumer consumption, improvement of industry standards and environmental awareness. These MoUs are:
Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) – WAZA MoU on sustainable palm oil.
