WAZA Welcomes New Member – The Florida Aquarium

Posted: 3 December 2023

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is pleased to welcome a new Institution Member to the global zoo and aquarium community – The Florida Aquarium.

The aquarium focuses on building awareness and inspiring action for species and habitat by offering visitors a variety of experiences, such as engaging with interactive and informational exhibits, exploring complex ecosystems and searching for wild dolphins in Tampa Bay.

Over the past six years, The Florida Aquarium has transitioned from an attraction aquarium to a conservation-based aquarium, allowing them to grow significantly to actively fulfil their purpose of saving marine wildlife. They are actively engaged in stewardship of the natural environment through mission programs which include conservation, education, research, outreach and delivering world-class animal care.

Dr Martín Zordan, WAZA CEO, said, “We are very pleased to welcome The Florida Aquarium to the WAZA community. Aquariums and their role in conservation cannot be overstated and expanding our community to include aquariums of such a high calibre presents a great opportunity for our members to collaborate and learn from one another.”

The Florida Aquarium is steadfastly committed to saving wildlife in our aquatic backyard and around the world, which is why we are honoured to join one of the world’s preeminent conservation and animal wellbeing organisations, WAZA,” said Roger Germann, President and CEO. “Contributing to the global fight against extinction through collaboration with fellow WAZA members provides hope for a future where animals and humans thrive together in nature.”

The Florida Aquarium is also a member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA).
