WAZA Welcomes New Member – Mundo Marino S.A.
The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is pleased to welcome a new Institution Member to the global zoo and aquarium community – Mundo Marino S.A.
Mundo Marino, Argentina, is a family company which strives to protect and educate about wildlife while cultivating harmony amongst members, employees, visitors and families. Their education and outreach actions are oriented towards different levels, from kindergarten students to professionals and university professors.
WAZA CEO, Dr Martín Zordan said, ‘We are pleased to welcome Mundo Marino as a new WAZA member. The institution’s education programmes highlighting the value of individual action in building a more sustainable world make it a vital space for the youth to learn more about biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability.’
Mundo Marino has multidisciplinary work teams to carry out the necessary controls, changes and improvements over time necessary for the promotion and development of the best conditions of animal welfare. These teams include trained animal care staff, the nutrition and logistics department, and the Animal Health and Development (SDA) veterinarians.
Mundo Marino’s conservation strategy is based on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) guidelines for in situ and ex situ conservation, with a focus on identifying the priority conservation problems affecting the local marine megafauna, their sustainability and the ecosystem in which they develop. Within this conservation strategy, Mundo Marino are carrying out a series of in situ and ex situ projects covering ecological, biological and sanitary aspects.
Mundo Marino S.A. is also a member of the Latin American Zoo & Aquarium Association (ALPZA).
