Stantec’s animal habitat planning and design studio is part of Stantec’s themed entertainment group. This studio is led by Pat Janikowski (formerly with PJA Architects + Landscape Architects). For nearly three decades, Pat and his team have designed zoos, safari parks, aquariums, and exhibits across the US and in Australia, Chile, China, Qatar, Singapore, Türkiye, and United Arab Emirates for public and private clients. They create impactful and educational interactive experiences that connect humans with animals and the natural world while upholding the highest standards of international practice.

Our animal habitat and entertainment design professionals seek to set trends for zoological and botanical planning and design, theme parks, and wildlife sanctuaries, and in the interpretation of nature and culture. Our work is known for its creativity, innovation, and design excellence, and we strive to meet the highest standards for ethical design directed by World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) requirements. 

We collaborate with our clients to understand their project needs and carefully translate that understanding into aesthetic, functional, and cost-effective design solutions that prioritize animal welfare while offering an engaging and educational experience for guests.
