Overview
Hamilton Zoo is a Zoo and Aquarium Associate Australasia (ZAA) accredited and World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) accredited too. Owned and operated by Hamilton City Council we are set in 25 hectares of tranquil surroundings and are home to more than 600 native and exotic animals.
We’re looking for a special kind of team leader to join our Te Kaaroro – Hamilton Zoo team, and lead our Birds & Ectotherms Team. If you think this could be you lets talk!
Role Profile
- At least 5 years experience in operational husbandry
- Tertiary level qualification in animal management or equivalent
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to take people on a change journey
- An understanding of modern zoo principals and practices including legislation
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As our team leader you will oversee and actively participate in the daily operation in our Birds and Ectotherms sections.
You will not only be leading the team, but will also spend some of your time working as a keeper to be present on the ground with the team.
You will oversee the performance of our team and work with them on their development plans, while overseeing animal husbandry on the ground.

- You are available to work on a 7 day a week roster to care for our animals
