Role Overview
Role Summary: Provides proper care and husbandry needs of Primates in assigned area.
Main Duties:
- Performs professional zoo keeping duties: husbandry, care, refinement or development of behavior, positive conditioning training, environmental enrichment and feeding of the animals within the assigned area.
- Keep accurate and detailed daily animal keeping records of all individual animals under their care. Monitor animals for illness, injury or unusual behavior and take appropriate action as well as assist with veterinary care.
- Performs capture, restraint and transport of animals within their assigned area.
- Ensure that animal enclosures, service areas and facilities are clean, in sanitary condition and have no structural defects. Reports all maintenance and structural defects of animal enclosures and exhibits to the Head Keeper.
Role Specification
Qualifications: Secondary school diploma or a degree in Biology, Zoology, or any related field and an equivalent of two (2) years experience.
Experience: At least two (2) years of zoo animal care experience, specifically working with Primates
Skills: Keen observation; animal handling and restraint; problem-solving, recordkeeping and ability to do lifting and bending, as required of the position.
Renumeration: Commensurate with experience
