WAZA Welcomes New Member - Gembira Loka Zoo

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is pleased to welcome Gembira Loka Zoo, based in Indonesia, as a new Institution Member.
Gembira Loka Zoo is a conservation-based zoological and botanical garden dedicated to protecting Indonesian biodiversity through animal welfare, conservation, education, research and community engagement.
Located in the city of Yogyakarta, the institution also serves as an important urban green space, combining wildlife conservation with opportunities for learning.
WAZA CEO Dr Martín Zordan said, “Protecting biodiversity requires strong institutions that connect conservation, research and public engagement. Gembira Loka Zoo reflects this approach, and we are proud to welcome the institution to the WAZA community.”
The zoo works closely with government agencies, universities and conservation organisations to support wildlife conservation and research. It also plays an active role in regional conservation breeding and species management programmes.

Gembira Loka Zoo is a member of the Southeast Asian Zoos and Aquariums Association (SEAZA).
