Role Overview
Role Summary: Dubai Safari Park is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Bird Trainer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for avian care and behavior, along with experience in training birds for educational programs and presentations. This role involves working closely with a variety of bird species, ensuring their welfare, and engaging the public through interactive demonstrations.
Main Duties:
- Train birds using positive reinforcement techniques to perform behaviors for presentations, educational programs, voluntary husbandry and care.
- Develop and implement training plans tailored to the individual needs of each bird species.
- Develop and implement enrichment opportunities tailored to the individual needs of each bird species.
- Monitor the health and wellbeing of the birds in your care, reporting any concerns to supervisors.
- Conduct daily husbandry tasks, including feeding, cleaning, and maintaining appropriate habitat conditions.
- Collaborate with fellow staff members to create engaging educational content that promotes awareness and conservation of avian species.
- Participate in public presentations, demonstrations, and educational programs, effectively presenting information about bird behavior, care, and conservation.
- Maintains detailed records on training progress, animal behavior and overall animal welfare.
- Stay updated on best practices in animal training, behavior, and welfare through professional development opportunities.
Role Specification
Qualifications: Secondary school diploma or a degree in Biology, Zoology, or any related field or an equivalent of two (2) years of animal training experience.
Experience: At least two (2) years of animal training experience. Bird training experience (especially raptors) is preferred.
Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, attention to details, teaching, listening, presentation and ability to do lifting and bending as per job requirement
Renumeration: Commensurate with experience
