WAZA Welcomes New Member – Monarto Safari Park

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is proud to welcome Monarto Safari Park as a new Institution Member.
Monarto Safari Park, one of the world’s largest open-range zoos, is located 70 kilometres east of Adelaide, Australia. Since opening to the public in 1993, the park has become home to numerous threatened species, with over 70% of the animals under its care facing the threat of extinction.
The park offers immersive visitor experiences, including safaris and educational programmes, all aimed at raising awareness about endangered wildlife and the importance of conservation.
WAZA CEO Dr Martín Zordan said: “Through active participation in species management programmes and a strong emphasis on threatened species, Monarto Safari Park contributes meaningfully to conservation efforts within the global zoo and aquarium community. We are pleased to welcome them as a member of WAZA and look forward to their collaboration in advancing our shared goals.”
As part of Zoos South Australia (Zoos SA), Monarto Safari Park works alongside Adelaide Zoo. Their operations are guided by a commitment to ethical animal care and welfare, a science-based approach to conservation, and meaningful community engagement.
Dr Phil Ainsley, Chief Executive of Zoos SA, said: “Monarto Safari Park is delighted to join like-minded organisations as part of the WAZA community, committing to the highest standards of animal welfare as we connect people with nature and save species from extinction.”
Monarto Safari Park is also a member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA) Australasia.
