The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is pleased to welcome a new Institution Member to the global zoo and aquarium community – Edmonton Valley Zoo.

Established in 1959, Edmonton Valley Zoo endeavours to create an engaging place that inspires the protection and conservation of animals and the world we live in.

Dr Martín Zordan, WAZA CEO said, ‘WAZA is pleased to welcome Edmonton Valley Zoo as a new member. With the institution’s focus on stewardship, conservation, education and engagement, I am confident that there will be multiple opportunities to collaborate with other WAZA members and facilitate knowledge exchange and learning.’ 

The Zoo team is passionate about working to preserve the natural world and promoting environmental responsibility. Zoo staff work with international organisations on ethical and strategic conservation projects either actively raising animals in species survival programmes or raising funds and awareness to support initiatives in other parts of the world. The zoo also models green strategies in all it does here at home to promote environmental responsibility.

Edmonton Valley Zoo has been accredited by and is a member of Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA) while also being a member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
