WAZA Welcomes New Member – Seattle Aquarium

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is pleased to welcome a new Institution Member to the global zoo and aquarium community – Seattle Aquarium.
Established in 1977, Seattle Aquarium is home to 13,381 invertebrates from across 192 and 4,056 fishes from 146 species.
Dr Martín Zordan, WAZA CEO said, ‘WAZA is excited to have Seattle Aquarium as a member, especially given the institution’s commitment to the collaborating with other institutions and aquariums in joint conservation action locally and globally.’
In 2018, the Seattle Aquarium began expanding their conservation efforts beyond the United States, to include the Coral Triangle which has meant increasing their international collaborations to include organisations across Asia and Europe. The aquarium is actively involved in multiple IUCN SSC specialist groups such as the Cetacean Specialist Group, Otter Specialist Group, Sea Horse Specialist Group, Shark Specialist Group.

Seattle Aquarium has also been accredited by and is a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
