Established in 1958, the Fundação Zoológico de São Paulo focuses on preserving and restoring ecosystems through research, developing new products and diagnoses and acting effectively for society and biodiversity.
‘FZSP is a 64-year institution with an extensive history in the international Zoo community. It was recently remodeled, focusing entirely on Research and Conservation (CECFau). We are pleased to rejoin WAZA,’ said Mrs Patrícia Locosque Ramos, Director of Technical and Scientific Affairs at FZSP.
The Fundação Zoológico de São Paulo is also a member of the AZAB – Associação de Zoológicos e Aquários do Brasil and APAZA – Associação Paulista de Zoológicos and in 2018 was recognised as a Scientific and Technological Institution of the State of São Paulo for its applied technological work in the field of biotechnology, research, and innovation.
Dr Martín Zordan, WAZA CEO said, ‘WAZA is pleased to welcome the Fundação Zoológico de São Paulo as our newest Affiliate Member. It is our endeavour to be truly representative. Having our membership expand to include more members from the Global South will help us be more inclusive and in turn help our members learn from diverse experiences and expertise.’
The CECFau / FZSP seeks different approaches and continues to improve techniques that can improve the welfare and quality of life of animals under human care, including in their standards of well-being, the development and maintenance of the health of the animals through the implementation of annual preventive management, as well as the supply of diagnostics and veterinary treatments.
