Last September, the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) called for bids from members to host the 79th Annual WAZA Conference. A high standard of applications from WAZA members around the world was received and after careful deliberation, the WAZA Council voted to pick Taronga Zoo, Sydney as the host for the 79th Annual WAZA Conference on 3-7 November 2024.

WAZA CEO, Dr Martín Zordan said, ‘Taronga Zoo’s commitment to conservation, education, and animal welfare makes them the perfect host for the 79th Annual WAZA Conference, which aims to promote global efforts in protecting and preserving our natural world. WAZA conferences are an ideal opportunity to bring leaders in the zoo, aquarium and conservation communities together to discuss pertinent issues within our community and examine how WAZA members can act on global issues such as sustainable palm oil, plastic pollution, the illegal wildlife trade and species conservation.’

Set against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour on Cammeraigal Country, Taronga Zoo provides a stunning and inspiring environment that exemplifies the beauty of nature and the importance of wildlife conservation. Taronga’s dedicated team of experts and conservationists will be actively involved in the conference, sharing their knowledge, experiences, and research on wildlife conservation.

The conference will also bring together like-minded individuals, organisations, and experts from around the world, fostering invaluable networking opportunities and potential collaborations.
