As a member of the management board we are looking for a Zoological Director (full-time) to head the department of species conservation & animals as soon as possible. As zoological director, you will have overall responsibility for innovative, high-quality animal husbandry that is attractive to guests, with a focus on species conservation.
Your responsibilities:
You are responsible for the operational design and strategic further development of the department and thus contribute to the implementation of the “Development Plan 2050”.
An important part is strategic livestock development, legitimized exclusively by species conservation and research interest, and scientifically based population management focused on species conservation.
You also have responsibility for continuous development of animal care, including Animal Welfare Assessments, Behavioral Enrichment and Medical Training.
You are also responsible for all research projects at the zoo.
In addition, you work proactively on collaborations with national and international zoo and professional associations, as well as relevant government agencies.
In addition to these strategic tasks, you will be responsible for the management and development of your eight directly subordinate employees as well as for the smooth running of the corresponding departments with a total of around 70 employees.
What you bring to the table:
You are a strong personality with several years of experience in leading employees and in project management.
You have a university degree in science (biology/zoology, veterinary medicine or environmental sciences).
It is an advantage to have several years of experience in animal stock management and in the keeping and care of wild animals.
You are distinguished by your solution-oriented negotiating skills, your strategic and conceptual abilities as well as your economic thinking.
You are an innovative and dynamic personality who can win over others with empathy and strong communication skills. Communication skills at least in German and English, preferably also in French.
