Zoo Animal Keeper – Cologne Zoo
Background
Cologne Zoo – enthusiastic for animals
Cologne Zoo is one of the most traditional and popular zoos in Germany. Founded in 1860, it welcomes more than a million guests every year. With 10.000 animals from more than 840 different species Cologne Zoo is one of the most species-rich in Europe. The zoo is an experience and relaxation area. It mediates knowledge about the animals living here and raises awareness for the protection of their fellow species living in the wild. Cologne Zoo is involved in numerous species conservation projects around the world.
The AG Zoologischer Garten Köln (Cologne Zoo) is looking for a trained person for the terrarium section of the Aquarium starting 01.01.2022
Zoo animal keeper with craft certificate (m,f,d).
You are suitable if you have successfully completed your qualification as a zoo animal keeper and you already have experience in keeping amphibians and reptiles and the resulting expertise.
In addition to the general animal care tasks -such as food preparation, rearing and breeding – we expect you to work creatively and team-oriented in the redesign and construction of animal facilities. We attach particular importance to the constantly improving quality of our animal husbandry and increasing the attractiveness of the particular zoo section both in the public area and behind the scenes. This includes, inter alia, the performance of commented feedings and guided tours.
You should have computer skills and be willing to do minor skilled manual works. A basic technical understanding in the field terraristics is necessary. Flexibility is a matter of course for you, so that you are able to assist in other areas of our Zoo and in the Aquarium in case of holiday or sickness cover. Experience in the field of aquaristics or in the care and handling of terrestrial invertebrates is particularly advantageous.
If you can work independently as well as in a team, enjoy interacting with people and animals, have the necessary organizational talent and see yourself as a service provider, we look forward to your application.
We offer performance-linked, qualification-based payment according to the TVöD (collective agreement for the German public service) with associated company pension scheme and a future-proof employment. In the first instance, the position is a temporary position for one year. To continue is possible.
Application
Would you like to become part of a team that focuses on species conservation? We are involved in conservation breeding and reintroduction programs, e.g. for threatened crocodile newts or the Philippine crocodile, which is threatened with extinction. Almost 100 amphibian and reptile species are kept in the Cologne terrarium department, around 1/3 of them bred, many of them are threatened and part of international conservation projects.
Take the chance to find a challenging and fulfilling new position in one of the most beautiful zoos in Germany and apply with your meaningful application documents by e-mail to: pa@koelnerzoo.de
