An exciting opportunity has arisen to manage the Saving Wildcats #SWAforLIFE Project to breed and reintroduce Scottish Wildcats back into their natural habitat with the aim of reversing the decline of this iconic national species.
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the wildlife conservation charity that owns both RZSS Edinburgh Zoo and RZSS Highland Wildlife Park, is looking for a committed and passionate conservation project management professional to join our exceptional staff team on this unique and vital project to breed and reintroduce Scottish Wildcats back to their natural habitat. The Saving Wildcats (#SWAforLIFE) project is a partnership between The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, Scottish National Heritage, Forestry and Land Scotland, Cairngorms National Park Authority, Nordens Ark (Sweden) and Junta De Andalucia (Spain).

The Saving Wildcats Project Manager post has arisen due to a successful funding application to EU LIFE and offers the opportunity to work with a diverse set of teams across a leading conservation organisation nationally and internationally.

The role

Based in the RZSS Conservation Department at Highland Wildlife Park and managed by the Head of Conservation and Science Programmes, you will report to the Saving Wildcats project management group and RZSS Executive and be responsible for all facets of Project Management, including line managing the project team, ensuring sound financial planning and technical management of the project and maintaining full delivery of the project results and deliverables.

You will also work closely with other RZSS departments and with external stakeholders in the project

The following responsibilities/activities form part of this position:
• Responsible for the delivery of sub-projects on time, to budget and to agreed standards
• Lead regular project meetings with the team
• Report to the #SWAforLIFE Management Group and RZSS Executive
• Making operational decisions to deploy resources to achieve project milestone targets
• Analyse project requirements and advise on scope and options for operational improvement
• Maintain and develop key relationships with key partners, both internal and external to enable projects to be run efficiently and effectively.

This is a full time, 6-year fixed term role where the working hours are 37.5 hours per week. Some weekend and evening work patterns may be required.

The candidate

We are looking for someone dynamic with a wide variety of project management skills and experience, plus a firm grounding in conservation science and practice.
First class organisation and time management are required along with a proven, robust ability to deliver projects on time, to budget and to agreed standards of quality. You need to be a results-orientated self-starter who can respond to and balance constructive feedback from different stakeholders.

You will have a solid understanding of conservation practice and the multiple roles that organisations such as RZSS play in this sector. Your behaviours and personal attributes should be such that you are a good fit for the culture of RZSS and are someone who lives and breathes the ethos and values of organisation.
