72nd WAZA Annual Conference, Berlin, Germany

Registration is now open for the 72nd World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) Annual Conference

The Conference is being held from 15-19 October, in Berlin, Germany, and will examine issues such as animal welfare, conservation, and the social, cultural and physical benefits of zoos and aquariums.

WAZA has chosen the theme, 'Our Time Is Now', to emphasise the pivotal role zoos and aquariums play in the global fight to protect wildlife and wild spaces.

"WAZA and its members are uniquely poised to influence major issues going forward,” said Doug Cress, WAZA's chief executive officer.

"We receive 700 million visitors each year, we’re the third-largest funder of global conservation, and our captive breeding programmes have saved dozens of species from extinction.

"We’re already addressing issues such as marine litter and climate change on a daily basis, and it’s time for zoos and aquariums to move to the forefront on these and other environmental concerns."

The 72nd Annual Conference will take place at the
Sofitel Berlin Kurfürstendamm Hotel and is hosted by the three facilities that comprise the Zoologischer Garten AG: Zoo Berlin, Aquarium Berlin, and Tierpark Berlin.

Online registration links for the Conference can be found at: www.waza2017.org

Early bird registration will be open until 15 July, with regular registration open until 31 August. Delegates have the option to purchase full packages for the full four days of the Conference – which include evening events and dinners – or single-day passes at a reduced rate that permit attendance to only the WAZA Technical Congress and the WAZA Conference sessions.
