Executive Director, Zoological Operations & Conservation (ZOC) Ocean Park Hong Kong


Opened in January 1977, Ocean Park is Hong Kong's premier zoological theme park. The current park covers more than 915,000 square meters of land and features a diverse selection of world-class animal attractions, thrill rides and shows divided between different themed zones. Operated by the Ocean Park Corporation, a statutory board, it runs on prudent financial principles. It aims to provide elements of entertainment, education and conservation at an affordable price to the local citizens and overseas tourists of Hong Kong.


Ocean Park is a winner of the internationally acclaimed Applause Award, an accredited member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), and one of the world's Top 20 most visited theme parks.


Reporting directly to the Chief Executive of Ocean Park, the ZOC Executive Director is responsible for all animal care, welfare and conservation activities of the zoological based theme park. As Head of the ZOC Division, the incumbent leads the Division to support the Park's zoological strategies and activities pertaining to animal welfare, marine research and student education whilst promoting entertainment and recreation for the general public. As Director of the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, he/she is also responsible for the conservation strategies and implementation of animal conservation efforts in the area.


Job Requirements:
• Minimum a degree in biology, zoology, animal science, veterinary science, wildlife and fisheries management, and preferably with an advanced degree such as a master or doctoral degree.
• At least 20 years of management experience within a zoo/aquarium/animal park/conservation environment, 10 of which should be at senior management level.
• Ability to direct, control and manage the operations of a complex and diverse organization, in areas of finance, budgets, personnel, capital investment, community engagement, conservation advocacy, board support, fundraising, and Government liaison.
• Have a thorough understanding of conservation principles and the role zoos and aquariums should play in support of conservation.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, cultural sensitivity and political acumen.
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills. Fluency in both English and Chinese (Cantonese) will be preferred.
